Before You Buy, Know How To Choose
The Correct Hydraulic Reservoir

A hydraulic reservoir, also known as a hydraulic tank is one of the most important parts of any hydraulic system.

Take a moment to learn these critical factors about steel and aluminum hydraulic tanks for trucks to save yourself time, frustration and expenses down the road.

Hydraulic Tank Manufacturers Can Cut Corners
In Way’s You’ll Never Know – Learn How

A hydraulic reservoir can be made very cheaply if you leave out important components and skip steps in the quality process.  The worst part for you is that you’ll never know until that hydraulic tank is installed and running in your system.  Whether you’re building or repairing a system for yourself or a customer here are a couple things you’ll want to know before you buy a steel or aluminum hydraulic reservoir.

From the outside hydraulic tanks look pretty much the same.  What counts is how they’re built and what’s inside.  (Actually what may be missing from the inside.)  Here are basic questions to ask:

Do Your Hydraulic Tanks Include Vortex Suppression?

Suction at the pump inlet of every hydraulic reservoir creates a vigorous swirling action similar to water draining in a sink.   This vortex introduces unwanted air into the hydraulic fluid. You know that is very a serious problem.  Don’t assume anti-vortex comes standard with all hydraulic tanks.  If it doesn’t include it, walk away.

Do Your Hydraulic Reservoirs Include Diffusers?

Some hydraulic tank manufacturers leave them out if they think they can get away with it.    Diffusers perform three important functions:

  • Improve cooling by distributing the heat that builds up in the hydraulic reservoir
  • They separate entrained air from the fluid
  • They help to prevent contaminating particles from reentering the system

Diffusers should be included in every hydraulic tank – bar none!

How Do You Guarantee Your Tanks Don’t Leak?

We’ve heard horror stories about hydraulic tank manufacturers shipping out new tanks that leaked at the weld.  All it takes is a pinhole to create huge cost and frustration the minute they’re installed.  Had the manufacturer pressure tested each and every hydraulic reservoir like we do they would have caught the problem before it left the factory.  They value profit over reputation and customer relationships.  We want you as a repeat customer so we pressure test each tank.

Hydraulic Tanks from Propower are all pressure tested before they leave the factory.
