Important Considerations Many Hydraulic Reservoir Manufacturers Don’t Even Know:
- A hydraulic tank has to have a large surface area to remove heat from the fluid and pass it to to the air
- Must be large enough for returning fluid to slow as it enters the reservoir allowing contaminants settle and entrained air escape
- It must have a baffle to separate fluid entering the reservoir from fluid entering the suction line
- Allow for air space above the fluid to accept bubbles that float to the surface
- Easy access to remove old fluid and contaminants and to add fresh fluid
- Every hydraulic tank must be properly sized to allow for (a) hot-fluid expansion, (b) gravity drain-back during system shutdown, and (c) storage of large enough volume to supply during intermittent peak periods of operating cycles
